We want to understand how insects adapt olfactory-mediated behavior to a changing environment by phenotypic and genotypic modulation, from individual adaptation to evolutionary change.

Chemosensory modulation in moth larvae

Behavioural plasticity allows insects to respond to changing environmental conditions. We are especially interested in the mechanisms underlying the modulation of olfactory mediated behaviour. Holometabolous insects generally experience a tremendous change of their natural environment [...]

Bacteria induced volatiles in soil arthropods and plants

Chemical communication in Streptomyces bacteria: a study on the smell of earth Soil emits a distinct smell. Humans but also some insects are extremely sensitive in detecting the smell of earth. Responsible for the characteristic [...]

Drosophila olfactory preference, functional and evolutionary basis

Olfactory-mediated host choice in Drosophila We are studying host choice in Drosophila with the aim of characterizing individual odour components governing specific steps in the selection of hosts. We also characterize the olfactory receptor neurons [...]

Mate and host finding in a moth: mating and feeding state

Recognition and modulation of olfactory signals in the noctuid moth Spodoptera littoralis Food, mates and host plants are essential resources for plant-feeding insects. Optimal resource localization that fulfills the physiological need and reproductive goals of [...]
